Welcome!

Our refugee family from Myanmar (Burma) has arrived. They are in need of our support in many ways. How to help: Contribute food they can eat (see list on the credenza in the back of church). Arrange to visit or help with tutoring. Buy a gift card to Price Chopper or Hannaford. See Chris Lapinski for details!

SQPN - The Star Quest Production Network

From the SQPN website: "SQPN (Star Quest Production Network) is a multimedia organization specializing in the production of audio and video programs faithful to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Its mission is to respond to the Church’s call to use the media for religious information, for evangelization and catechesis and for formation and education.

"These audio and video productions are made in different languages and are aimed at an international audience. They focus on building bridges between the dominant popular culture of the Western world and the religious culture and tradition of the Catholic Church in order to reach an audience that has little or no relationship with that Church.

"Just as the star of Bethlehem emerged within the foreign culture of the three magi, and invited them to start an adventurous journey to the newborn Savior, the programs of SQPN tap into popular culture to invite people on a journey of discovery towards an encounter with Christ.

"SQPN produces on-demand audio and video programs, also known as podcasts, and offers a portal for a select number of affiliated Catholic podcasters that share the vision and media strategy of SQPN."

Looks like these folks figured EWTN needed some competition. And they're taking an interesting run at it. Check it out. Also don't miss their Catholic iPhone app video, trading off the Apple ads, below.

Saving the World One Blog at a Time?

When its creators met Cardinal Ratzinger, they told him, "Cardinal, we're students at the University of Notre Dame in the United States . . .." All he could say was, "Ah, Notre Dame." They've been called, "an Ultramontane Monty Python group." Their blog has to be seen to be believed (or believed to be seen?) . . .

The Church at Albany Welcomes Everett Mercier

On Sunday, August 23, St. John's-St. Ann's and ecumenical witnesses from several local churches, gathered to welcome Everett Mercier into the Christian church. With his parents, Denise and Steven Mercier, godparents, family, and friends gathered, Fr. George Brennan presided at the sacramental rite of Baptism. This marks the first time St. John's-St. Ann's has participated in this Capital Area Council of Churches intiative in which volunteer witnesses from the Council's 90 member congregations, representing 16 denominations, are invited to partipate in baptisms at sister churches, as a form of ecumenical witness. Joining us as witnesses to Everett's baptism were Queenie Holloway and Willie Mae Spencer from Bethany Baptist Church, and David and Jean Kaercher from St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

If you are interested in becoming a witness or wish to invite a team to your church, call the Council's Witness Coordinator, Ian Leet, at 518-482-6612, or email him at ileet@nycap.rr.com.
